Making Progress

December 5th, 2009

I wanted to update everyone and let them know how things are going.  They’re going extremely well :)  The cut is moving towards a lock for this month (I hope we reach the goal!) and God has opened new doors in regards to our distribution and post-funding for our score/sound-mix.  He’s also providing some free advertising for us which is fantastic.

We have an article coming out in a local magazine, a podcast interview coming, another interview with an online websites podcast, and free banner advertisements added to a digital magazine that contacted us recently.

I’m very excited to know things are looking up.  We had an unsure spell for a while but God is proving himself faithful like he always does.  Thanks to all for being patient :)

Please don’t forget (if your on Facebook) to invite friends/family to our fan page. We really need your help there.  I know I say that a lot but it seems that no matter how much I try and make it clear of the seriousness of that, little is done.  We have a goal of 10,000 fans by Jan 1st. Every fan we have inviting just ONE…just ONE person off their friends list would have us reach our goal plus some.  If you want to see more Christian films and family-oriented entertainment, then you gotta support it.  Come on folks, we’re counting on you.  STAY IN PRAYER.

10,000 Fans by Jan 1, 2010…IT’S POSSIBLE :D

November 21st, 2009

Alright folks, this is where you help us get 2010 off to an amazing start for our film. We will be releasing the film on DVD sometime in 2010 (hopefully mid-summer, we’re still looking for post-funds and distribution, prayers appreciated!).

I know your all waiting anxiously :) Be patient though…there are still things for us to do, and things you can do as well.

Many, many, many of you have used that ‘Suggest to Friends’ button under the poster to add your entire friend lists…and thanks to you who have done it thus far.

We want to set a goal of 10,000 fans for January 1st, 2010.

Is this unreachable? Look at our fans now, we have over 6000. If all of you only had 50 friends to invite that’s 250,000 fans! To hit our goal of 10,000…all of you (not even all) have to invite just ONE. Come on people, some of you have hundreds of friends and family on Facebook who you could spread the word too. These kinds of films, like Flywheel, Facing the Giants, Fireproof, and now Courageous that Sherwood has put out required a lot of your help to spread the word around…we’re no different.

Christian movies are on the rise, and they require YOU the Christian to drive it. For those with more friends will it take you a few minutes? Sure, but what’s a few minutes of your time to spread the word for a worthy cause and message? Films like ours require your participation, we don’t have millions to spend on marketing…we have almost nothing!

Those of your praying for post-funds and distribution for us, don’t you think that being able to say “we have 20,000+ fans on Facebook who want to see this film released” might carry some weight with an investor or distributor? What about 30,000? or 50,000?!

We can do this people! Lets make a big splash! I’m counting on you! :D

(VIDEO) Standing Firm – BTS : Rob Reisman

November 11th, 2009

A new behind the scenes video is now available! :)

I’ve been sitting on these videos for a long time, worrying about when to release them.  I’ve been nervous about releasing them too early, building up interest only for it to fizzle out later before release.  Lots of things to ponder regarding marketing and when to do things.  Luckily the Lord has Blessed us with a ton of these videos.  We have many to release over the coming months and leading up to an eventual DVD release.

Today we’re releasing Rob Reisman’s video.  This is a quick 3 minute compilation of pieces of our interview with Rob when we sat down with him many months ago to talk about his experience on the film.  We’re very lucky that instead of the typical run of the mill BTS videos, we have some serious heart behind ours.  All our actors and crew poured their hearts out for everyone to see.  We hope todays release is a Blessing to you!

Please share it using the links available next to the video, and continue to spread the word online and on Facebook (Suggest to Friends button under the poster).  These videos are going to be very important to rally support from the Christian community.  We need your help! :D

Starting the Lock

October 31st, 2009

Editing a film is a long and laborious process.  I’m pleased to report that we’re now heading towards the end of it.  The film was recently split up into 4 reels, each around 20 minutes long.  Reel 4 is in the best shape of the three and will likely lock first.  The term “lock” refers to a point in time where the actual length of a given chunk of the film will not change.  No more tweaking to any scenes, no changing of the pace or adding a frame or two between a cut…it stays how it is.  It’s tough getting to that point as you nit-pick over things, try and make each scene it’s absolute best, and even go back and make sure that there aren’t any better takes that can be used to strengthen any given scene (which in some cases there are some of those laying around!).  It’s nice to be at this point, having started editing the project so long ago…Praise God!

Thanks again to all who helped us have our most fruitful month yet on the internet.  Our visits to the website, increase in fans on Facebook, additions to our email list, followers on Twitter, emails and Facebook messages of encouragement, etc. have all been incredible.  That was all in just the month of October!  We’re hoping that somehow that kind of energy could sustain over time until our project is finished and we begin a marketing push towards a release date.  We’ll continue to update you, post things for you to engage yourself in and respond to, etc. but overall the effort all of you put into spreading the word needs to continue.  For those of you who have invited all your friends on Facebook to our fan page, thanks so much…that might be our most valuable resource to date.  Those of you who haven’t, please do…as one fan put it, “It’s no problem, it was so easy!”  It’s up to you guys.  While larger budgeted movies have tons of dough to market and promote their films, ours will be minimal.  Even bigger movies that throw the big dollars at billboards and websites still hope to gain a certain percentage of exposure from you guys…so do your part :D

Happy Reformation Day!  God is Good! (all the time)

Quick Update

October 27th, 2009

Just a quick update for everyone :)  First of all I’m getting really sick so I would appreciate some prayers on that end of things so I can get better…everybody seems to be coming down with something!

We’re continually working on the edit and we’re now in Cut #5.  The film is coming together nicely and some good feedback from some that have seen the film is helping the edit a great deal.  We’re still in prayer about how we’re going to pay for our score/sound-mix and on the distribution end the doors seem to be cracked open, just waiting on God.

Just continue to pray as you have for so long that all the decisions made would be aligned with what God wants us to do and that we in no way take a wrong turn.

After receiving many Facebook messages, phone calls, emails, etc. today I’m just amazed at how the word has spread about this film.  Facebook, the website, and this blog…and people like you who read this and spread the word!  It’s amazing who knows about this film and have contacted us to lend their support no matter what kind it may be.

I can’t wait for the day when we can give all of you a release date.  What a wonderful victory that’ll be for us!  As always, thanks so much for everyone’s support, prayers, word of mouth effort, and all things in-between.  We appreciate you! :D

In Awe of Him

October 15th, 2009

About 20 minutes ago God broke me down for the millionth time since Standing Firm started.  Every time I take a moment to look at our film, my time spent with it normally ends in tears.  As I watched pieces of the film unfold on my Plasma (I can finally pump my edit from Final Cut Pro to my TV via an output card) I just could not believe my eyes.  You’d think it would get old, seeing the same old scenes, behind the scenes interviews, etc., but it doesn’t.  It’s just like the first time I saw them put together, unbelievable.  It’s less about how each scene turns out too because I’m very satisfied with our film given our circumstances and situations.  It’s more about the fact that God gave me such an incredible passion for this stuff.  I’m so thankful to have this opportunity.  The HONOR of serving him in a way that I can enjoy spiritually and artistically.  As a Christian, of course it’s my duty to serve him and be joyful no matter what he has me doing, but I count doing it with filmmaking as an extra Blessing.

The fact that so many put in their time for this, drives me absolutely crazy with happiness.  The thankfulness makes me want to freak out sometimes.  How is this possible?  Why me?  Why Kyle Prohaska?  Why now?  Why when I’m 21, and not when I’m 40 and have a greater grasp on things?  It’s just amazing that I get to do this.  We didn’t have a lot of money, or a lot of crew members…nor did we have a ton of equipment, lights, the best camera, or the greatest locations.  I mean for pete’s sake, 90% of the film was shot with two crew members (myself and my gaffer doubling as sound), with actors carrying equipment!  But what we did have was the Lord, and that was more than enough!

I didn’t do a lot today but yet again work on the film.  I burned new copies of Cut #4 and sent them off in the mail.  That felt really good :)  Our fan page is still exploding with activity on Facebook.  It seems new people find it everyday.  I did some simple math and it looks like we have almost 1300 new fans since Oct. 1st.  That’s absolutely insane!  Thank you Lord!  I’ve been praying (and I hope you would join me), that this film would find a huge audience well before it’s even on DVD.  I’ve had some ideas rolling around in my head on how to get that going, and implementing a few seems to have worked!  There are still bigger and better things to come down the road to, no matter what happens.  How would you all like a place to discuss the things God has done in your life?  That’s all I’ll say for now regarding the idea, but I hope it gets you excited!

Keep praying for distribution, it’s in their hands.  Pray that the Lord would provide a way for us to pay for our music/score and our sound mix, whether it be by our distributor or not.  That’s something we really need.  Prayer started this project, and prayer will undoubtably finish it.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His Will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of Him.” – 1 John 5:14-15

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7

Thanks again to all our supporters, I appreciate you so much!

Peanut Gallery?…far from it!

October 13th, 2009

I’m astounded at the response we’ve been getting from people online in the past month.  Visits to our websites related to the film, this blog, our twitter page, facebook fan page, youtube channel, etc. have skyrocketed.  In the last month the website and blog has seen a 200% increase in traffic! :D  We’ve gotten tons of responses to the trailer on Youtube and gathered around 1200 visits to the channel in just 2 weeks.  Two interviews have been done with myself, one an online blog, the other a podcast.

Facebook has seen a 1000 fan jump and we’re now around 3100 fans.  This is due to a lot of time spent messaging people and finding fans of Christian film content from around the country!  Many have taken the time to invite their friends and family as well which is the only way for us to gather the grass roots fan base we need.  Have you done your part?  If not and your a fan, use the Suggest to Friends button under the poster on our fan page and give it a whirl! :)

I’ve posted comments from supporters before but given the increase in exposure we’ve gotten even more! :D  Here’s a few from our wonderful fans…

“Standing Firm…a MUST SEE movie for God’s people.” – Cheryl J.

“Wow! Speechless! Need tissues for this one! Thank God for his Grace.” – Elizabeth C.

“Just from watching the trailer, I can see God’s fingerprints on it.” – Brian S.

The fact that these kinds of comments are only from our trailer makes me terribly excited to get this film done and released.  I’m very excited :)  Please continue to help us spread the word, especially if your on Facebook.  Currently our Fan Page is one of the greatest ways to gather supporters and keep them up to date on what’s happening.  The email list isn’t taking off like I had hoped so Facebook is it and is the easiest way for others to tell people!  Do your part!

Cut #4 of the film is well on it’s way and I think we are getting closer everyday to picture lock.  Many scenes have been tweaked to perfection and only a few things remain before the edit is in really excellent shape.  It still amazes me everyday just how far God has brought us and what kind of film He’s given us to share with everyone given the resources/time/people we had.  He IS good.  He started this, and he’ll finish it.  I’m not worried.

Isaiah 14:24 – “The Lord of Hosts has sworn, saying, surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand…”

Philippians 1:4-6 – “In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Till next time…

Some Setbacks…

October 7th, 2009

We’re having some hideous computer and software issues as of yesterday morning.  Please pray that we find an answer sometime soon as money is extremely limited and so is time.

Technology is as aggravating as it is amazing.

EDIT: Praise God, the problem seems to be fixed after a simple re-installation of our editing software.  Thank goodness :)

Excitement is Building…

September 30th, 2009

Although our film is not yet completed, there has been an increase of interest from online supporters who have found out about our film.  On top of that, a few have seen the film in its current form and have offered some feedback.  We figured we would share it with you!

Before you read that, let me update you on where the film currently is.  We have the film in the hands of a distributor and we’re waiting on their response.  We still have yet to lock the film (that means the edit is complete and will be left alone), and when that does happen we will move forward with the sound-mix and the score.  However, we need you to be praying for us.  If the distributor we initially contacted says no, our options are limited to finish the film.  The reason…we can’t pay for our score/sound-mix.  We’ve gone through dozens of composers before finding the one who can give us what we want.  We still have time, because even if we had the money, no composer could really start much without an edit lock so that’s our current goal.  Please pray that God would provide us an answer soon as to where we are to go with the project.  Pray for discernment with the distributor, that whether the answer is yes or no, their decision would be swift and honest so we may move forward.  If it is a no, pray that God provides a way for us to finish the film and find another distributor.  If it is a yes, then pray that all the many things that would need to move forward would do so smoothly and without issues.

I want to say thank you yet again for all the love and support you’ve all shown.  We launched our website in December 2007 and for almost 2 years we’ve had an online presence surrounding this film, and it grows daily.  From the bottom of my heart, thank you.  Continue to spread the word to your friends and family.  Join our fan page and invite others, follow our new twitter page, join our email list.  Do all you can to tell everyone about Standing Firm!

Here are some warm comments from some of our excited supporters online…

“Cant wait for the release.  When will it be out on DVD?  Living out in the sticks means that is the only way to see it here in South Africa.” – Dalena, South Africa

“If the movie is anything like the trailer, this is incredible, I was deeply moved…broken.” – Cathy, USA

“The trailer looks really great!  When will it be released?  I’m in Malaysia so get it on DVD asap….” – Andrew, Malaysia

“Looking forward on seeing this film. It really makes you stop and think about life and what it’s all about! Thank you Jesus!” – Sherry, NJ

“Fantastic work. I can hardly wait for this to hit the screen.

God be with and bless you ALL!!” – Sharon

First Viewers of the Film in it’s current form…(Cut #3, Temporary Score/No Sound-Mix or Color Correction)

“Simply put- the movie is amazing. The characters, the storyline, and the quality all make you feel as if you are apart of the story. Standing Firm is a top-notch film and is one of the most biblically sound and Christ centered movies I’ve seen! It is relevant for anyone of any age.” – Heather, NY

“The new movie Standing Firm an above average piece, including something for prayer-warriors, the hard-working man, or a college student struggling to do what is what is right in the middle of adversity. You will walk away from the film understanding that life, although sometimes unpleasant, can still be wonderful in Christ Jesus our Lord. The story is real, the people are authentic, and the ending will surprise viewers. Standing Firm is a movie that exemplifies a Christ-like journey of faith when the name of Jesus is explicitly mentioned, and when it isn’t. There are many new movies bearing the name of Jesus Christ, but very few depict the reality of a life with Christ in the way Standing Firm does.” – Matt, NY

“I marveled at the production quality as I watched it, and your faithfulness in truly making this a Christian film that has a solid, Biblical message. I believe you told me that some of your talent were non-professionals, but that certainly didn’t come across at all…You did a good job of portraying the emotion surrounding the death of a loved one, and presenting Christian solutions to dealing with the loss…This is a film that can be shown anywhere, and that should help you in your marketing efforts.  May you have much success with your film, and may the Lord bless the great messages within it.” – Bob, Texas

Belief in His Purpose

September 22nd, 2009

From the start it’s been clear that His hand has been on this project, and we’re trusting Him for big things.  I found this video yesterday and it brought me to tears.  It seems all over, I keep finding examples of what we’re trying to share with people via this films message.  I’ve heard the song “He Loves Us” so many times and never knew the history behind it.  There is so much pain, heartache, death, and PURPOSE in the story of Standing Firm, within the film and outside of it.  As John says in the video as he breaks down “It’s not my song…” and like us “It’s not our film…”  I’m so unbelievably excited to see the rippling impact that God is going to make with this project.  Please continue to pray for us and most of all for everyone walking around this planet today, whether they be saved or not, who might see Standing Firm in the future, that God would continually prepare their hearts for the message He has to give them.

Watch and be blessed…

Comments from Akron, NY

September 19th, 2009

For those of you wondering how the cut of Standing Firm is coming along (the cut shown to him was Cut #3, we’re now in Cut #4), why don’t you ask Matt C. from Akron, NY…

“The new movie Standing Firm is an above average piece, including something for prayer-warriors, the hard-working man, or a college student struggling to do what is what is right in the middle of adversity. There are many new movies bearing the name of Jesus Christ, but very few depict the reality of a life with Christ in the way Standing Firm does.”

Thanks goes out to Matt for his warm comments! :)  The cut continues to be refined every week as things are tightened and decisions are made.  The film is looking much better since Cut #3 and I’m much happier with the overall quality of some of the scenes.  Much has happened this summer to me personally that has God teaching me patience, this area of my life especially.  We’re just moving along slowly and trying to figure out what we should do distribution wise with this film.  As most of you know, we can’t really finish this film on our own, as we can’t pay for a score or sound mix currently.  There are options we have, but none are 100% and patience is key.  This film is at a crossroads, but rest assured, I’m doing what I can to make sure my side of things isn’t slacking.

Pray for the film, and its future.

New Trailer Released!

September 10th, 2009

After months of mulling over countless different cuts of this trailer, sending it to dozens of people for feedback.  Cutting out things, adding in other subplots of the film, changing the music, etc. we finally have a new trailer to release.  I’m glad to have this off my shoulders for now, because creating a trailer for this film was by far the most difficult part of the process.  Cutting the entire film was a joy and a vacation compared to creating this two and a half minute preview.  This is one of the last videos you’ll see about the film for a while so enjoy and be sure to share it with your friends!

We hope it’s content is a Blessing to you.
